Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi slams certain European states for their efforts at justifying the Israeli regime’s and the United States acts of aggression, including their unprovoked war against Iran last month.
The top diplomat made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis on Saturday.
Araghchi warned that such biased behavior served to normalize and promote violations of the international law.
By trying to rationalize such acts of uncalled-for aggression, the European countries would also be contributing to intensification of insecurity across the West Asia region and the world, he added.
The region has witnessed intensified acts of deadly aggression by the regime and the US, particularly over the past decade.
The aggression has manifested in both parties conducting targeted assassinations of regional figures as well as in Washington’s unequivocal military backing of Tel Aviv’s deadly operations against regional states.
Last month, the regime launched a series of attacks on Iran -- including against some of its nuclear sites -- killing at least 935 people, such as senior military officials, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians.
The US joined the fray towards the end of its 12-day streak, attacking several Iranian nuclear facilities.
Following the assaults, several key European states, especially Germany, attempted to serve as apologists for the aggression.
Araghchi, however, denounced the attacks as “blatant violations of the principles of the United Nations Charter and the international law.”
He emphasized the necessity of a firm stance by all countries in condemning the flagrant lawlessness and holding the aggressors accountable.
For his part, the Swiss official likewise noted that the Israeli-American attacks against the Iranian nuclear installations had violated the international regulations.
He said Switzerland’s position was one of defending diplomacy, expressing his country’s readiness to contribute to efforts at advancing diplomatic solutions as a means of avoiding violence.
